About me:
I've been passionately intrigued by the mystical traditions of the world since I was a child where I found comfort in the quiet simplicity of the monastic Buddhist temples of Hawaii. At age 15 I read P.D. Oespensky's In Search of the Miraculous and hastened my quest for self-discovery. I stumbled into yoga many years later and found the intersection of physical discipline, psychological development and spiritual insight compelling. Though at first I (like most) equated yoga with the physical discipline, eventually it was the philosophy of yoga that has become my main interest. In fact it rather describes my raison d'etre.
In my past lives I have been a New York City bike messenger, art director, graphic designer, fashion model, theater lighting technician, lead singer in a rock band, and performance artist. A proud dilettante to the finish, when I'm not teaching or practicing yoga and meditation I am outside enjoying the lush green beauty of the Pacific Northwest: rock climbing, backcountry skiing, developing my amateur bike racing 'career' or just spending time in what I call "Church of Singletrack Mountain Biking". My feeling is life is short and precious and there's no time like the present to do whatever it is that makes your heart sing. Every moment--even the mundane and painful ones--are sublime and rich when seen through the lens of awareness. The experience of being deeply alive is an immeasurable gift. Yoga is a tool for expanding one's ability to be present in each vibrant moment.
My formal training includes vinyasa and yin teacher training with Sarah Powers, Iyengar with Lisa Walford, and apprenticeships with Beth Greenfield (Iyengar yoga) and Callie Littlefield (ashtanga yoga). I have been teaching for over 10 years, after completing a year-long apprenticeship with my mentor, Callie. Most recently I have completed a number of teacher training sessions in the Anusara tradition with Sarahjoy Marsh. My teaching and practice are enriched by continuing education, workshops and training with senior teachers such as Tias Little, Richard Freeman, Ana Forrest, Shiva Rea, Kausthub Desikachar and others. I am pleased to have passed the torch of teaching on to others through offering my own teacher trainings, which emphasize direct mentorship and a strong self-practice component, old-school style.
