Class Descriptions

Vinyasa Yoga   Vinyasa yoga, also known as "flow", is known for its dynamic, meditative and creative sequences, exploring stillness within motion, strength within ease, wisdom within action. Emerging from the roots of Krisnamacharya’s lineage of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga, vinyasa yoga is a creative, organic method of practice that is at times rigorous, meditative at others, all the while being a seriously playful exploration of yoga. These classes are mixed level, athletic beginners are welcome to attend.

Yin & Vinyasa This class begins with yin yoga, silent meditation and contemplative practice, followed by dynamic movement to energize body and invigorate the mind. The movement practice will include Taoist vinyasa, a Qi Gong type of rhythmic flowing movements to balance more traditionally linear vinyasa practices. *Please note: No late entries to this class. Door will be locked when class begins.

Yoga Basics This class teaches basic poses, breathing, movement and awareness of body and mind that is necessary to build a safe and enduring yoga practice. While it is tailored to brand new beginners, it is also the best place to start up again if you've had a long break from yoga to help you ease back into it, or if you are recovering from injury. The curriculum is based on Yoga Journal's Yoga Basics book (recommended reading).

Yin Yoga employs passive floor postures held for extended periods of time in order to stretch connective tissues of the hip joints and spine, affecting the ligaments, joints, tendons and fascia. I teach yin yoga as an embodied beginning meditation practice—guiding students through the physical practice with further illumination and contemplation of classical yoga psychology as it relates to modern life. As the body opens effortlessly, the mind itself is toned, strengthened and expanded. Perfect for the runners, cyclists and other athletes who simply require flexibility training rather than a yoga "workout", or for those who wish to explore the benefits of training the mind through yogic meditation, but have trouble meditating at home, alone.
