Fall 2008 Teacher Trainings and Continuing Education
This Fall I will be offering two teacher training options--a week-long immersion in Taoist (yin) yoga held at the beautiful natural sanctuary of Breitenbush Hot Springs, and a three-month "Therapeutics Teaching Lab" at Yoga Pearl. The Teaching Lab is for yoga teachers who have been in practice for less than 5 years and wish to develop their eye for postural analysis, learn more effective and supportive adjustments and be able to assist students with musculoskeletal imbalances or injury. For complete details about these programs, click here to go to the Yoga Pearl website.
Breitenbush DharmaYoga Retreat
October 9-12, 2008
Last year's yoga retreat at Breitenbush sold out early and was over too soon! This year's retreat in October is already being planned, and is also expected to fill up early, and will offer some new material, as well as adding a third FULL day of yoga! Make it a full three day weekend by arriving Thursday night and return on Sunday. New this year will be the introduction of Taoist vinyasa, a flowing practice based on the movements of Qi Kung, and extended silent meditation periods to become better attuned to the quiet rhythms of nature that Breitenbush offers.
Sample schedule:
6:15-7am silent meditation
7-8am Breakfast
9:30-10:45am noon Tao of Yoga yin and flow
5-6pm pranayama
7:30-9pm yin, guided meditation
Registration for the 2008 retreat will begin in August 2008. Check back for details. Or send an email to receive information as it becomes available.
My diverse training enables me to teach from a unique perspective, unbound by convention, yet respectful of each tradition I have ever studied and practiced. My passionate interest in the art, science, history and culture of yoga, and infuses even my regular classes with a workshop type feel. To go even deeper requires focused, special attention and effort, and this is what I offer through regular workshops, throughout the year.
Previously held workshops
•Yoga Darshan—teacher enrichment workshops for yoga teachers who wish to strengthen their ability to "see" postural imbalances with clarity and wisdom. Universal alignment principles for teachers who may not have had much, or any, alignment based coaching.
• Yoga for Women — special focuses for women included "Chandra Yoga" (moon yoga) for menses and menopause.
• Creative Stress Management through Yoga—Taught as part of a graduate admissions orientation.
• Yoga Therapeutics—Special sessions focusing on specific body conditions, i.e. back care basics, neck and shoulder focus, hips, etc.
• Yoga for Cyclists—Special sessions focusing on the particular needs of the competitive cyclist, with an emphasis on hips, lower back, and shoulder openers. This work also includes upper body conditioning to help address the musculoskeletal imbalances that arise from the rigours of training and racing.
• DharmaYoga — a fusion of yin and yang yoga methods and a strong meditative component that emphasizes yoga psychology, for teachers and advanced students
• Posture Perfect workshops — Workshop sessions with a specific focus on certain types of poses (backbending, arm balances, standing poses, etc) or that aim to teach good overall physical posture, correcting "bad posture" through everyday movements and awareness.
